A very RARE set of volumes... "The Provinces of the Roman Empire from Caesar to Diocletian" published in 1886 by Richard Bentley. A Detailed description & history of all the Imperial Roman Provinces by the noted German classicist & historian Christian Matthias Theodor Mommsen [ 1817 - 1903 ]. Whilst a continuation of his 1862 - 66 'History of Rome' ( for which in 1902 he won the Nobel Prize for Literature ) the work is complete in itself, indeed each section on the various Provinces can be read alone. The work continues to be a standard reference to this day!!! I would say two books in like new condition for age!!!!! In a matching fine binding-light wear on corners, spine sunned- inside like new condition, no stains no foxing. ALL 10 maps present and in like new condition- see photos if you don't believe my words!!! RARE.
