It features a box-like design intended to hold approximately several tablets, each inscribed with a posthumous Buddhist name. The piece includes one plain wooden board. The tablet is predominantly finished in black lacquer, with certain areas further embellished with a mixture of lacquer and gold powder. Over time, some of the gold has worn away, leading to discoloration and visible wear. The metal fittings also show signs of tarnishing. The featured family crest, Ivy Crest symbolizes vitality and prosperity, often used in decorations for its beautiful foliage and seasonal changes. This crest was especially popular among warrior families during feudal times and is one of the top ten major family crests used in Japan, known for its associations with historical figures like Matsunaga Hisahide and Todo Takatora.
