1988 Domaine Trapet Père & Fils - Gevrey Chambertin - 2 Flaschen (0,75 l)

Jean-Louis Trapet has the manner of serene men. Of those who know that "men pass away and the earth remains". And because wine is all about sharing and transmission, the legacy of his great-great-grandfather Louis, who founded the estate in 1870, has remained alive. Today, it is he who watches over the 15 hectares of vines, among the best located in Gevrey, and who preserves this treasure of which he is only the custodian: three grands crus (Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Latricières- Chambertin), two premier crus (Petite Chapelle and Clos Prieur), and also plots in Marsannay and classified in the Burgundy appellation. Since 1995, the entire estate has been run biodynamically: free from any violent action in the vines and in the cellar, respectful of balance, this approach is based above all on observation. Support the vine to make it grow while protecting it. Aging marks a decisive stage at Trapet: once the vinification is completed (the least interventionist possible), the wines are taken down to the cellar and barreled to evolve slowly, at their own pace, throughout the winter. An area to absolutely know for any lover of Burgundy wines, and especially Pinot Noirs from the Côte de Nuits. It is in the village of Gevrey Chambertin that the Jean and Jean-Louis Trapet estate is located, a well-known name in the Côte de Nuits. This is why this cuvée from Gevrey-Chambertin Villages has a special place at the estate, especially since it is a blend of several localities scattered throughout the commune: the En Drée plot is located mid-slope when you head towards Brochon, Les Champerrier is the oldest vineyard on the estate since planted in 1913, Clos de Combe takes us closer to the center of the village, Vigne Belle is a pretty climat (which lives up to its name) and La Petite Jouise is planted towards the famous grands crus of this appellation. Ultimately, this Gevrey-Chambertin is a very elegant wine which is characterized by its roundness, its suppleness and its great aging potential. It goes very well with red meats and feathered game. The nose offers aromas of small red and black fruits, beautiful vegetal notes (like brambles), coffee and pepper. The palate confirms the fruity and vegetal aromas, combined with beautiful bitterness and a fine acidity, freshness, well-coated tannins as well as a finish with notes of graphite.
