Muhammed inn Muhammad Hasan al-Tabrizi - Koran - 1559

Koran - Persia - 1559 - Tabriz. A bi-folio scribed in 1559 by Muhammed inn Muhammad Hasan al-Tabrizi, with chapter heading and marginals. We believe this to be from Chapter 43, Surah az Zukhruf (Ornaments), which encourages believers to relish in their faith and love of God and not in earthly riches. Its small size indicates it would have been a travelling Koran for personal use. It is in excellent condition for its age, with only a little thinning and a minor repair to the frame (see image 3h). The overall quality is good. Left folio, 15 lines fine nata’liq, two before the Surah and 13 after it. Each verses is denoted by simple gilt ‘aya’ with red dot with 5 radial marking in blue on the circumference. Devotional markings in red. Simple framing markings surround the whole ending in single blue line. A pair of round marginal ‘juz’ (marking 5th and 10th verses) in gilt with blue outline and finials north and south. Right folio, containing 17 lines of scripture in continuous fine nasta’liq with simple gilt ‘aya’ as above marking the verses. Simple framing markings surround the whole ending in single blue line. Three marginal ‘juz’ in the same style as the left folio mark the verses. Each folio is sized 11.5x8cm. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
