The Roger Wagner Chorale is an American choir founded in 1946 by choral musician and educator Roger Wagner. Story In 1937, Roger Wagner joined the MGM choir in Hollywood and was subsequently appointed music director of St. Joseph's Church in Los Angeles, where he founded an outstanding men's and boys' choir, including the young Paul Salamunovich. In 1945, Roger Wagner became director of young choirs in the city of Los Angeles, particularly the “Los Angeles Concert Youth Chorus”. The Roger Wagner Chorale emerged in 1946 from a madrigal group of twelve of these singers. In 1949 the Chorale received a contract with Capitol Records, for which he recorded over 20 records. Over time, the Chorale became known around the world through its numerous radio, concert and television appearances, film soundtracks (The Gallant Hours) and more than eighty recordings. They were also known for singing the theme song and score for I Married Joan. The Virtuoso recording won a Grammy Award in 1959 and the popular Christmas carol recording “Joy to the World” was a gold record album that sold more than half a million copies. The Chorale has toured the world and included such outstanding singers as Marilyn Horne, Marni Nixon, Claudine Carlson, Harve Presnell (on several recordings), Salli Terri (on several recordings as well as researching several LP liner notes), Earl Wrightson and Carol Neblett.
