ô'yoroi aus Gold- und „Rostrot“-Lack mit eindrucksvollem Kabuto und Bärenfellbesatz - Metall, Seide, Brokat, Lack, Pelz - Japan - Taishō Zeit (1912-1926)

An impressive Japanese gold and textured ‘russet iron’-coloured lacquer 'great suit-of-armour' (ô'yoroi) with purple/white cords and a 2-piece cuirass (kurenai’urushinuri murakashi’ito nimaidô tôsei gusoku) boasting bristly bear fur trims and with a striking helmet (kabuto). - Textured ‘russet iron’-lacquered 18-plate suji’bachi kabuto (helmet with raised ridges) mounted by a lacquered maedate (forecrest) shaped like a a long-horned fanged oni (demon) with a white moustache, and adorned with a pair of gold lacquered wakidate (side decoration) shaped like long arched horns. 6-Tiered chrysanthemum-shaped gilded metal tehen’no’kanamono (decorative apex fitting), golden silk agemaki (decorative tassel), small rounded gold lacquer fukikaeshi (face guards), and 3-tiered gold lacquer ‘kiritsuke kozane’-plate shikoro (neck guards) ending in a fur trim. - ‘Russet iron’-lacquered ‘angry man’-facial mask (resseibô-type menpô) with separate nose-piece boasting a white moustache, gold lacquered teeth, and 4-tiered gold lacquer ‘kiritsuke kozane’-plate gorget (yodarekake) with a fur trim. - Sode (shoulder guards), tôsei-type, constructed with 5 gold lacquer ‘kiritsuke kozane’-plates and with fur trims as well. - Gold lacquered kote (bracer), shino-type, metal pieces connected by Japanese mail (kaushi-gusari), placed over light coloured silk with mokkô design. - Textured ‘russet iron’-lacquered dô (cuirass) of the ‘dangae’-type. The main part is of the ‘yokohagi okegawa’-type with faux– ‘kiritsuke iyozane’- and ‘itazane’- lames, and finished at the bottom with two gold lacquered ‘kiritsuke kozane’-lames. Transcending into with low domed rivets, silk lining and 7-parts of 5-piece ‘kiritsuke iyozane’-plate kusazuri (tassets) with fur trims. The back of the cuirass has a hook (gattari) and support for a flag-pole (ukezutsu). - Black and light silk waistband (uwa’obi) with orange chrysanthemum flower design. - Haidate (thigh armour) of 4-rows of 20 gold lacquered ‘kurata’-plates, matching silk and with orange brown decorative ‘smoked leather’ borders. - Suneate (shin guards), tsubo-type, ‘Russet iron’-lacquered form-fitting metal plates continuing in a wing-shaped top, fastened on silk lining with flower design. - Kegutsu (fur shoes) of light brown boar or deer fur with a ‘smoked leather’ tab in front, and an orange cord. Complete with a large rectangular black lacquered store-box for an ô’yoroi (kara’bitsu) -later date-. Height with box: approx. 180 cm. Period: Japan - Taishô period (1912-1926). In a good condition with traces of age conform age, like age-worn or discoloured textile. Point of one wakidate restored. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
