Watch a video of this specimen by following the Vimeo link below: https://vimeo.com/944038982 Here is an unique specimen from a recent find in Saint-Pons, Ubaye valley, displaying a sharp baryte crystal amidst a bed of calcite rhombohedrons. Well-formed alpine baryte is not really common, especially from the alpine clefts of Saint-Pons. You can see here a typical alpine baryte facies, with a translucent, slightly bluish core and concretionate white outer layer. Balls of grey aragonite are scattered throughout the specimen and you can also spot very thin platy gypsum dendrites over the faces of some calcite rhombohedrons. Such combination specimens from the tight alpine clefts of Saint-Pons are very hard to come by and should be valued as top-tier locality specimens. Discovery Cristosud 2021.

Here is an unique specimen from a recent find in Saint-Pons, Ubaye valley, displaying a sharp baryte crystal amidst a bed of calcite rhombohedrons.

Well-formed alpine baryte is not really common, especially from the alpine clefts of Saint-Pons. You can see here a typical alpine baryte facies, with a translucent, slightly bluish core and concretionate white outer layer.
