The first figurine of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory decorated with a feather-like scaled design was made in 1871. The scaled pattern soon became known worldwide as Herend’s specialty. A variety of different animal figurines became sought after collectors’ pieces. The original many coloured ornamentation with golden details is still very popular. It is almost impossible to imitate this pattern, as the narrow or widening scales can be applied to the uneven surfaces by hand painting only. The turtle is very exotic, with its 'shield' in gold, red, blue and black, while its underbody is in the traditional scaled pattern of red. Its feet are in gold again. Therefor it has become a real collector's item! It is a beauty!
