Magnificently made work, oil paint on panel, depicting a portrait of an old woman with book. This beautiful work of art was made by the Belgian painter Ernest Wante (1872 - 1960). Wante was educated at the School voor Tekenkunst in Sint-Niklaas, the Koninklijke Academie in Antwerp and at the Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp. He won the Godecharle prize in 1893, which enabled him to make a study trip to Germany. He was a tutor at the Antwerp Academie for a long time. Wante exhibited as a successful painter domestically and internationally. He painted landscapes and portraits. This magnificent, almost photo-realistic painting is made in 1942 and is in good condition. It just needs a frame. The dimensions are 51 x 38 cm and the panel is 3 cm thick. Works by Wante are sold for serious prices, not strange given the quality. The panel will be sent very well packaged.
