Petrus Johannes Maria (Piet) Cottaar (Delft 2 December 1878 - Rotterdam 10 July 1950), known by the RKD as a copy and painter, is especially known for his still lifes with flowers (poppies, sunflowers, etc.) and fruit. His copies of old masters (like this one) and Dutch landscapes were mostly sold to American tourists, who travelled with the Holland America Line to Rotterdam. These copies are therefore rare; I could only find one, which was auctioned on 7 March 2000 at Christies in Amsterdam (to: "Oude vrouw in gebed voor de maaltijd" by Nicolaas Maes, for NLG 4447). This painting is after the work by Ruisdael from 1670, which is located in the national museum, shows the Lek with a boat on the left, the mill on the right, and Duurstede castle in the distance and the tower of the Sint Jans church to the far right. It is in good condition, but somewhat yellowed. A cleanup would restore it back to full glory. The photo with frame shows the yellowing in the best light. The original frame is undamaged, but has some paint loss here and there. Because of its size, the painting needs to be picked up in Rhoon. It can be delivered in the Netherlands or Belgium against petrol costs (consumption 1:15).
