Carrozzeria Savio, founded in 1920, was one of the many coachbuilders based in the Turin area who specialised in the production of special bodies for Fiat. In 1967, Savio presented the "Albarella" (the name derives from a private island in the lagoon south of Venice), built on the basis of the Fiat 500 F floor, in competition with the 500 Jolly Ghia. It was produced in very limited batches (some reports say only 20 units in total) because the price was not competitive. Today, only eight units have survived. This one has the smallest known chassis number and is believed to be the presentation specimen photographed by the press and published in the magazines. Furthermore, this unit had only one owner, the "La Bussola" nightclub near Forte dei Marmi on the Riviera, and is reported to have been used as a beach chair by the singer Mina during the presentation of her album in 1968. It has undergone a total and complete restoration: the bodywork, the engine and the mechanics have been completely dismantled and reassembled with new or identically restored parts. The colour is original and recreated from a surviving hidden sample. The interior has been completely restored in real wicker by a specialist craftsman, using exactly the same method as in the past, by hand and with a protective coating on the wood. The upholstery is made of real natural fabric, hand sewn, with buttoned carpets; The engine is completely new and rebuilt, just like the gearbox, brakes, electrics, chrome and suspension; The underbody has been fitted with new floors and fully restored. The MOT has just been passed in March 2023 and is valid until March 2025 with no defects. The car is ready to join the best private collections or a museum, or for the summer Riviera.
