A finely modeled striding horse on a trapezoidal base, with the head adorned with tall plum, tasseled cloth, and ornate bridle. The saddle is studded and sits atop flared mud guards. Also worth of note is that the items are more than 1600 years old. - Additional Information: Wei known in historiography as the Eastern Wei was an imperial dynasty of China that followed the disintegration of the Northern Wei dynasty. One of the Northern dynasties during the Northern and Southern dynasties period, the Eastern Wei ruled the eastern part of northern China from 534 to 550. As with the Northern Wei, the ruling family of the Eastern Wei were members of the Tuoba clan of the Xianbei. Three Kingdoms, Jin Dynasty, Northern and Southern Dynasties (Six Dynasties) 220 – 589 A.D. During the Northern dynasties period, increased contact between the people of China and the northwest frontier brought about cultural exchange between the two regions. Pottery sculptures of this period show distinct influence from outside China. Sculptures of camel become increasingly common: figurines of foreigner, civil officials, horses, and warriors. Equestrian themes showing warriors mounted on armoured horses also prevailed. The types of burial figurines used during the Eastern Wei dynasty were similar to those of the Northern Wei and Northern Qi dynasties.
