Nobuyoshi Araki is one of Japan's leading photographers. He started photography under the influence of his father, who was a geta maker and an amateur photographer, and after graduating from the Department of Photo Printing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chiba University, he got a job at Dentsu. While taking advertising photographs, he used the company's equipment to explore new forms of photographic art, and since the 1970s he has released sensational works such as ``Oh Japan'' and ``Sentimental Journey.'' This book ``Araki in Wien'' is a two-volume set, ``Tokyo Paradise'' and ``Komodon Goes to Vienna.'' ``Commodon~'' is a collection of snapshots of Araki's daily life in Vienna when he visited the exhibition ``TOKYO COMEDY'' held in Vienna in 1997, accompanied by a figurine of a lizard that often appears in Araki's photographs. The slide screening (arakinema) at this exhibition was the Tokyo snapshot collection ``Tokyo Paradise.'' The essay by critic Shunji Ito, included at the end of Komodon, is titled ``An Iota of Life and Death: The World of Nobuyoshi Araki'', based on the way Araki is evaluated in the West (feminist criticism, etc.). This is a text worth reading that explains the photos.
