The Book of the Dead
An English Translation of the Chapters, Hymns, Etc., of the Theban Recension, with Introduction, Notes Etc.
The Book of the Dead is an ancient Egyptian funerary text, which includes the earlier Pyramid Texts and Coffin Texts, which were painted onto objects, not papyrus. Some of the spells included were drawn from these older works and date to the 3rd millennium BCE. The Book of the Dead was placed in the coffin or burial chamber of the deceased.

A complete three volumes in one, with 20 plates and 420 vignettes, including 3 coloured fold-out frontispieces. Published by Routledge and Kegan Paul, Ltd, London, 1949. Publisher’s original brown cloth board with black decorations, and black lettering on front board and on spine.

Condition
Firm and well-bound copy. Light wear to corners, and to head and tail of spine. Internally; the book in very good condition. A name on top first front free endpaper page. Pages are clean, and unmarked. All pages are tightly held at the gutter. Inner hinges are very good. All plates and fold out are present, and in very nice condition (Please see pictures).
