The Order of the Golden Kite (金鵄勲章Kinshi Kunshu), an order of the Empire of Japan, founded on 12 February 1890 by Emperor Meiji "in commemoration of Jimmu Tennō, the Romulus of Japan". Officially abolished in 1947 by the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP) during the occupation of Japan, after WWII. The Golden Kite was awarded only to military personnel and only those with Japanese blood can earn this award. It was the highest decoration for bravery awarded by the Japanese government and the recipients of this award were highly regarded. The order consisted of 7 classes.
