Catawiki Live allows selected sellers to present and sell their objects to buyers through a livestream environment. 

This Catawiki Live seller policy explains how Catawiki Live works, what is expected from sellers hosting a livestream and how the livestream, chat and bidding features interact. 

Our Terms of Use, including our  Seller Terms, continue to apply in full.  In the event of conflict, Catawiki Live Seller Policy prevails only for the purpose of Catawiki Live. 

What is Catawiki Live?

Catawiki Live is a feature on our online marketplace that allows sellers to present objects through a real-time livestream. Buyers can watch the livestream, use the chat and place bids through Catawiki’s designated bidding interface.

Although the user experience may differ from a standard Catawiki auction, the auction continues to take place on our online marketplace [and is governed by our Terms of Use]. 

The livestream supports the presentation of objects and interaction between users. The livestream does not create a separate auction or replace the object page. 

How does bidding work during Catawiki Live?

Buyers can place bids through:

• the standard bidding interface on the object page
• the bidding interface available within Catawiki Live

Both interfaces are part of the same Catawiki bidding system.

If a valid bid is placed within 15 seconds before the scheduled closing time, the auction automatically extends by 10 seconds. Further bids placed during the final 15 seconds will extend the auction by another 10 seconds.

A bid is only valid when it is submitted through Catawiki’s designated bidding system. Statements made verbally during the livestream or through the chat, including statements that someone intends to bid, are not valid bids and have no legal effect. Bids and auction outcomes are determined solely through Catawiki’s bidding system in accordance with the Terms of Use.

What is the seller responsible for during a livestream?

As the seller, you are responsible for hosting the livestream and for everything you do or communicate during it. You must follow the Catawiki Live Community Guidelines throughout the livestream. We may monitor livestreams and chat activity to protect users and the integrity of our online marketplace. 

You must not make misleading, exaggerated, false, speculative or unsupported statements during the livestream.

In particular, you must not make such statements about:

• the object’s value or estimated market price;
• potential increases in value;
• future resale potential;
• guaranteed investment returns; or
• overstating an object’s rarity, provenance, authenticity or condition.

You are also responsible for moderation in livestreams. We may also take moderation or enforcement measures where necessary to protect users, maintain marketplace integrity or enforce our Terms of Use and Catawiki Live Community Guidelines. 

How should I prepare for a livestream?

You must be adequately prepared before the livestream starts.

This includes:

• organising the objects you intend to present and keep them readily available;
• making sure sure your internet connection, camera, microphone and other equipment work properly;
• making sure the livestream can proceed without avoidable delays;
• being sufficiently familiar with each object, including its condition, provenance where relevant and key characteristics; and
• being ready to answer buyers’ questions accurately;
• dress in a manner appropriate to the occasion.

Only people aged 18 or older may host, co-host or appear on camera. You are responsible for making sure everyone appearing during your livestream meets this requirement and has given any necessary permission for their participation.

If you cannot attend the livestream or expect to be late, you must inform us immediately using both the telephone number and email address provided to you for this purpose.

How should I present objects during the livestream?

You must present every object accurately and truthfully.

During the livestream, you must:

• show the actual object being offered for sale;
• show the object clearly and from relevant angles;
• use adequate lighting so buyers can see the object properly;
• disclose all known flaws, defects, restorations, alterations and other material issues
• answer questions about the object’s condition, authenticity, provenance and functionality transparently;
• make sure your statements remain consistent with the object page; and
• correct inaccurate or misleading statements made by anyone participating in the livestream.

You may not present a different or similar object instead of the object currently available for bidding. You must also monitor the official bidding log throughout the livestream and make sure the object shown on screen is the same object that is currently available for bidding.

What happens if an object is misrepresented during the livestream?

You remain responsible for all statements, descriptions, demonstrations and explanations you provide during the livestream.

If an object is materially misrepresented, we may restrict your access to Catawiki Live or take any enforcement measures available under the Terms of Use.

How are disputes about livestream statements assessed?

If a buyer and seller disagree about something said or shown during a livestream, the object page remains the primary source for determining the object’s characteristics and the expectations arising from the sale.

Where we help resolve a dispute, we will generally assess it using:

• the object page
• information, including photographs and videos, submitted by you and the seller through our standard case-handling process

Livestream recordings and chat messages are not intended to be the primary record of contractual representations.

We may review livestream recordings or chat messages where we consider this appropriate, including for fraud prevention, enforcement or where required by law. However, we are not generally required to review, preserve or disclose livestream recordings for the purpose of resolving a dispute between users.

What action can we take?

We may monitor livestreams and chat activity to help protect users and the integrity of our online marketplace.

Where necessary, we may:

• interrupt or suspend a livestream;
• restrict or disable chat functionality;
• remove content;
• remove users from the livestream;
• restrict or suspend access to Catawiki Live;
• apply other enforcement measures under our Terms of Use.

How should Catawiki branding be used?

Livestreams must be clearly presented as taking place on Catawiki marketplace. 

You must use Catawiki’s branding and visuals in accordance with the instructions provided to you. You may not alter, misuse, cover our logos, trademarks or other brand elements.

The livestream must not infringe anyone else’s intellectual property rights.  You must not play copyrighted music unless you have obtained all necessary licences and permissions.

What happens if there are technical issues?

The livestream depends on internet connectivity, user devices and third-party service providers.

Technical issues may include:

• delays or latency;
• buffering;
• temporary interruptions;
• reduced video or audio quality;
• differences between information displayed during the livestream and the official Catawiki bidding log.

These issues may occur at any time, including shortly before an auction ends or during periods of increased bidding activity.

You are responsible for making sure you have an adequate internet connection, technical setup and equipment to host the livestream. We are not responsible for missed bidding opportunities or other consequences caused by delays, interruptions or transmission issues.

If a material technical failure affects the fairness or proper functioning of an auction, we may extend, pause, restart or cancel it in accordance with our Terms of Use.

Are livestreams recorded?

We may record livestreams in full or in part.

A recording may include:

• video and audio from the livestream;
• objects and other visual content presented by the seller;
• chat messages and displayed usernames;
• on-screen elements and user interactions.

Recordings may be created automatically and without additional notice. We may use, reproduce, edit, excerpt, combine, archive and communicate livestream recordings for purposes including:

• moderation and enforcement;
• fraud prevention and investigations;
• training and quality control;
• product development and service improvement;
• marketing, promotional and communication activities relating to Catawiki Live or our online marketplace.
