Getting your submission ready

1. Set a competitive reserve price

Note: Jewellery with an estimated value below €300 can only be listed without a reserve price.

Catawiki experts carefully curate all jewellery submissions to ensure they match the advertised quality. If a reserve price is set for pieces above €300, they also ensure it reflects a fair market value.

Experts may request to lower or remove the reserve price when:

  • The original reserve price is unlikely to result in a sale, based on past auction data, current market value and trends.
  • The object has remained unsold after multiple auctions.

2. Fill in all the details and write a clear description

When you submit an object, use the dedicated fields to provide the right information, e.g. metal fineness and weight, gemstones type, weight, cut, clarity, colour, treatment, presence of certificates, brand signatures, hallmarks, serial numbers, ring/bracelet/necklace sizes in mm/cm, condition, etc. These fields ensure your listing is clear, searchable, and easy for bidders to understand.

Please also use the object description field to share:

  • Unique features or notable history of the object
  • Condition details and any restorations (if applicable)
  • Presence of certificates or original packaging
  • Any imperfections or flaws
  • Shipping restrictions by country
  • Any VAT or import tax implications the buyer may face

Tip: The more detail you provide, the easier it is for bidders to understand the value of your object – and the more likely it is to sell. Find here more tips on how to write a clear, accurate description.

  • Full original paper jewellery certificate

Tip: Use a neutral background (white or black), avoid low-quality images, stock photos, or images with watermarks, logos and text overlays, and aim for natural lighting. Do not use any digital editing, filters or effects. Find here more tips on how to take professional photos.

📌 Examples of good vs. bad photos:

4. Proof of authenticity

To protect our bidders and maintain a trustworthy marketplace, we require laboratory reports and/or proof of authenticity for high-value and exclusive jewellery.

  • For pieces with diamond or gemstones estimated above €5,000, a certificate is mandatory. A report for the centre stone is sufficient unless the piece features both a centre stone and side stones totaling over 1 ct, in which case a full jewellery report covering all stones is required from an approved gemological institute (e.g. GIA, IGI, HRD, SSEF, Gübelin, AGL, GGTL, etc).
  • For branded jewellery additional verification may be required, such as:
     ✔ Certificate of authenticity
     ✔ Proof of provenance
✔ Original invoice or packaging (if available)

Note: Experts may request a lab report at any time if there's uncertainty about a material, origin, or treatment. Please refer to the list of accepted laboratories per country.
