Lecourtier (1855-1924) - large regule sculpture 'Cerf aux Abois' - France - circa 1880

Large regule sculpture on a marble base by Lecourtier, "Cerf aux Abois". Bronze patina. Origin: France Size: 60 cm high Material: regule In very good condition. Lecourtier was born on 12 July 1851 in Gremilly and died in 1924 in Paris. He was a French animal sculptor. Animal sculpture : his apprenticeship with Frémiet Prosper. Lecourtier was born in 1855 in Meuse in Gremilly. Very little is known about his personal life except that he was a student of Frémiet and he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1875 until his death in 1924. Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910) seems to have passed his passion for the animal world onto his student. He excelled in the production of animals in a naturalistic style and dedicated most of his career to animal sculpture (his Elephant created for the universal exhibition of 1878 can be admired on the square in front of the Musée d'Orsay) and to equestrian statues such as the famous Statue of Joan of Arc on the Place des Pyramides in Paris.
