Vintage Rolex Oyster Speedking ref: 4220 from c. 1942

This Rolex Oyster Speedking ref. 4220 dates from about 1942. As far as I'm aware it's all original with the exception of the crown which dates from the fifties. The crown is a later replacement Brevet "+" crown from the mid-1950's, itself quite a rare crown. Measure 30mm without crown, or 33mm with, and has a 17mm lug width. The dial is original and has acquired an attractive patina but has been repainted in the distant past. The manually wound movement has 17 jewels and has an Oyster screw-in crown and incorporates Rolex’s patented ‘Superbalance’. Service history is unknown but it runs well and keeps time as well as would be expected from a watch of this age. It has what's come to be called a semi-california dial and original mercedes hands. It's 30mm across plus the crown as it dates from an age when men's watches were that size or smaller. It comes on the black strap in the pictures and not the brown one. These small Rolexes are beginning to attract the attention of collectors.
