Beautiful print of the woodcut of the 'Koemelkster' by Jan Mankes. {1889-1920} Jan Mankes (1889-1920) was a Dutch painter and graphic artist. He left an oeuvre of about 150, mainly small, paintings, about 100 drawings and approximately 50 prints. Nature is the main topic in more than half of his works. He also made self-portraits, portraits (especially of his father, his mother and his wife), stills, landscapes and interiors. Jan Mankes already exhibited a lot during his life, and was greatly appreciated. Literature; Mankes-Zernike A & Roland Holst. 1923, page 63 and 36. Plasschaert A & Havelaar J. 1927, page 60. In the books, the woodcut is also mentioned as: "Vrouw zittend naar rechts, een koe melkend" For this woodcut, a block of crossways sawn pear wood is used. Signed in pencil at the bottom right of the image. In the bottom left corner of the block is the monogram JM. According to information obtained, the pictured woman, Hiskje de Haan, is the milkmaid at the neighbour of the Mankes family in Boven-Knijpe. Dimensions print; 192 x 142 mm. Dimensions frame: page; 270 x 220 mm. In excellent condition, to take the photos, the woodcut has been taken from the frame, the photos were taken without the glass pane, except for the last one. This lot will be packaged very well and shipped promptly with registered mail.
