A variant of the chimes like the ones used in a harmony, fanfare or drum band is known as a lyra or bell lyra.
The lyra is a portable set of chimes that was designed in the 19th century for German fanfare orchestras. It consists of a row of metal rods that are mounted in a lyre-shaped U-frame on a wooden handle. The instrument is carried in a belt and held diagonally upwards, held with the left hand while the right hand plays the instrument with a metal hammer. The claves, like a piano, are organized in two rows and are hit with a mallet. The lyra has a high, tinkling tone and sounds very pervasive.
Originally, the lyra was used especially in military bands used, later also in civil marching bands.
Wear is consistent with the age and use.
