Large bronze sculpture by the French artist Emile-André Boisseau (1842-1923)
It is signed on the edge of the pedestal E. Boisseau and on the front is is titled ‘La Défense du Foyer’ (the defence of the home)
This impressive sculpture represents a warrior who protects wife and child
The sculpture has a foundry stamp of the ‘Societe des Bronzes de Paris’ and a mark ‘Unis France’
61- 62 cm high 35 cm wide, diameter pedestal 26 cm

A comparable sculpture is described and depicted in Harold Berman, Bronzes Sculptors & Founders. 1800-1930, Chicago 1976, volume II, page 312, image 1124. Berman mentions among others that 'La Défense du Foyer' was exhibited at the Salon in Paris in 1884 and later on was placed in the Jardin du Champ-de-Mars The reduced versions were cast by the Societe des Bronzes de Paris
