Siem Schaeffer (1924-2005) - Het witte huis in Rotterdam

On offer is a beautiful painting by Siem Schaeffer. The painting depicts the white house in Rotterdam. The White House is the name of a building in Rotterdam that used to be the highest office building of Europe. It was one of the few buildings that survived the bombing of Rotterdam in 1940. In the 1990s, it was renovated to its original condition as much as possible (façades and roof). It was also the first skyscraper of Rotterdam and is regarded by some as the first skyscraper of Europe (although this title is mostly awarded to the Boerentoren in Antwerp). Simon (Siem) Theodorus Schaeffer is born in December 1924, a year and a half after his brother Jan Schaeffer. They were inseparable during their youth and there painting careers also developed quite parallel. Just as Jan, Siem did the evening course at the Rotterdamse Academie voor beeldende kunsten. Until 1959, the brothers worked closely together. Siem Schaeffer passed away suddenly in October 2005 at the age of 80. He painted until the last day of his life. Dimensions without frame: 50 x 40 cm Dimensions with the frame: 70 x 60 cm The painting is in excellent condition. The frame shows some signs of wear, but this is not distracting. Only visible when you look really closely.
