Wolfgang Heinz UNGER
Painter born in Haale, active mainly in Munich. In Munich he initially studied drawing at William Kranich. Then he took painting courses at the Act and Portrait Drawing Folk School. In the 1945-48 period he studied at Alexander Mauten. In 1948-49 he studied at the Art Academy in Burg Giebichstein, under the direction of Prof. Crodel. From 1948 he worked as a freelance painter. In 1956 he befriended Otto Pippel and had been his closest friend until his death. He also took painting lessons at the academic painter William Crane. In the 1960’s he had the first individual exhibitions of his work, organized by the Munich’s Schumacher Gallery and Berlin’s Sagert & Co. After 1964, he travelled to Africa, America, India, Thailand and the Himalayas. He painted landscapes with staffage, flowers, marketplaces, beer gardens and vedutas. He is one of the significant German impressionists -his painting style stands out above all with the use of the compound technique, which introduces light to the colours. His works can be often found on European auctions.
