Keris or kris from Bali with a Buta Nawasari grip, 21st century. It has beautifully refined carving that is intertwined with mythological images. The blade (the most important part of krisses) is very nice and comes from the 19th century. It has a wavy (luk) blade with particularly beautiful pamor (forging pattern). The pamor is called Ngulit semangka (melon rind) This is a very nice blade (wilah) with no less than 15 luk (waves). It symbolizes a snake (Naga) in action. The blade is characteristic of Bali because it's smooth polished. The decoration is probably 1970s. It is common that the decoration is replaced and has a lower age than the blade. The blade is ' ageless '. They are therefore often replaced or sometimes they have multiple ' Jackets ' for example, for a formal and informal occasion. The ring (above the blade) is called mendak and is of brass, usually the glass concerns stones (cabonchons) or probably semi precious stones. The blade and the decor are very detailed and finely executed with the most beautiful eye for correct proportions and action. This can be seen from the beautiful lines of the kris. In a very high-quality professional way and very delicately carved with the slender forms. The carving is from one piece of wood. The game is completely polished and sanded for a beautiful finish. She is in a good condition but the wooden decoration is at top right (under handle) a hefty damage updated (see photos). This is does not stand out very much anymore. But the blade is very good and that's the most important thing for a Kris. The blade does not fit entirely in the wooden decoration. Damages, however, are normal for a utensil.
