Jan van Raamsdonk, born in Düsseldorf on October 10, 1906 (son of Pieter Raamsdonk, painter, and Hendrika Teunissen).
On April 23, 1907 the parents arrived with their son Jan Raamsdonk, from Düsseldorf in Nijmegen. The whole family, with another daughter Adriana Cornelia, born in Nijmegen 28.9.1907, left Amsterdam on 10.12.1909.
His studio was in the 1st Jan Steenstraat in Amsterdam. His style was an imitation of Dutch fine painters, especially landscapes (Ruysdael-like). In the fifties he suddenly started painting fashionable things, such as Italian towns and gypsy women.
The painting is from a collection.
