Originally Kole Manev was a film maker but he has fully dedicated himself to painting since 1984. At that point he was 43 years old. Born in 1941 in Macedonia, as thousands of Greek Macedonian childs, he had to flee to Romenia as a consequence of the Greek civil war. Settled in Skopje in 1995, he studied arts in Belgrade since 1960. He lived in Paris in 1967, and decided to put his main focus on graphic arts. French speaking and francophile he realises his first individual expositions. Since 1986 he works on the theme of nudity, with naked corpses who appear to float in an atmosphere mottled with grey, blue and yellow. His paintings are full of transparency and magical atmosphere and are tinted with nostalgia for a peaceful past. Expositions are always events of national cultural life.
