He exhibited in the Salon in Paris from 1861-1877. This beautiful large sculpture is signed on the back. On the front the sculpture carries its title "Detresse". The artist truthfully expressed this sailor’s need. You can nearly see the panic in the eyes of the man. The sculpture has a beautiful, warm patina.
