Armada Hermitage / chest (Nuremberg) late 17th century-early 18th century (1) - Iron (cast/wrought) - 17th century
This is an Armada chest (type Nuremberg), late 17th century, early 18th century, made of wood and metal, with original keys and decorated lock plate.
This type of cases are also called ' Armada Chest' in English. The chests served as safe, for storage of valuables, and often have a large, complicated lock on the bottom edge of the lid Some were used by officers at sea, and were bolted to the deck of the cabin of the owner On land they were than painted.
This one probably has a Dutch painting.
The chest has a nice patina and a well functioning lock. The keyhole at the top opens by sliding 'secret' catch to the side.
