The sword model 1831 is a French sword of infantry. It was adopted in 1831 as a replacement for the former briquet sabre.
On 12 May 1831, the Committee of French infantry, announces the adoption of this new sword, taking as model of manufacturing the artillery sword model 1816. Its first utility is a cutting tool in campaign, it can be used as a camp axe.
This sword is adopted under the monarchy of July and will be in service until the end of the Second Empire. It equips among other soldiers of the infantry, as well as those of the foreign legion.

blade type: straight blade with lozenge section, double-sided, and in carp tongue
