Ship's clock, Schatz Royal Mariner vintage 8-day marine clock in fantastic condition - Brass - Second half 20th century

Founded in the 1850s, Schatz was for years the leading manufacturer of classic ship’s clocks. They continued to make mechanical chiming movements, before finally closed in 1985. For sale, a fantastic example of their top-of-the-range Royal Mariner. The clock shows superb workmanship with two eight-day mechanical movements, one for the clock, one for chimes. It strikes the ship's bell 4-hour watch sequence marked by progressive cycles of one-to-eight bells struck at 30-minute intervals. The hammer will be stabilized for transport (re-set by rotating the screw on the rear from the vertical off-position); it can be switched off using the lever at III. The face is in near mint condition. The polished brass house is fantastic with minimal patina (see #20 and other photos), without cracks, dents or major blemishes. Door opes by a catch on the side. The facet-cut glass is clean and intact. There is a service text from 1974 in marker-pen on the rear plate, which is invisible when mounted, but which can be cleaned off if wished. The clock runs and strikes as it should. The time can be regulated using the lever above the numeral XII. Complete with key and a copy of the original instruction leaflet. A rare opportunity to own one of these superb instruments, for use at home, in the office or on-board ship.
