Bronze plaque by sculptor FRANCESCO GIANNONE (1906–1996) He was born in Palermo on 4 October 1906. He graduated in decorative sculpting at the School of Art in his city and, in 1923, he received a scholarship from the Monza University of Decorative Art. After returning to Palermo, he obtained a degree in architecture, receiving two scholarships: the first to attend the course of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and the second, also in the same city, for the Scuola dell’Arte della Medaglia (from 1925 to 1929). From 1930 he taught plastic arts at the School of Art in Pesaro and in 1931 in Macerata. Then he moved permanently to Rome and taught drawing in the middle school of the capital. In 1961, he was offered a position to teach plastic arts and composition at the Scuola dell’Arte della Medaglia. In 1963, in the Hague, during the Biennial Congress of the F.I.D.E.M. (International Art Medal Federation - Paris) he was elected 1st vice-president. At the same time he became promoter and founder of the Associazione Italiana Amici della Medaglia (A.I.A.M.) based in Rome. He exhibited his works at the International Art Biennale of contemporary medals and in all medal exhibitions. (Contemporary.) Diameter: 11 cm
