Berkers is a self-taught person who after twenty-five years of working as a construction worker, started painting. He has started to focus on landscapes and still lifes and has developed into a special and valued exponent of Dutch Neorealism from after 1950. Work: Berkers composes still lifes where objects from the immediate living environment are placed in succession and shone from one light source. The game of light and shadow is depicted by him in such a meticulously clear and realistic manner that it results in a subdued composition. In his work as a landscape painter, the same material mastery can be found and Berkers was inspired by the landscapes of the Peel in Brabant. Berkers is inspired by painters such as Gerard Dou and Johannes Vermeer.
