This beautiful and large statue of Mary Magdalene is recognisable by the ointment box in her right hand. Mary Magdalene was present during the crucifixion, the cross-taking and the funeral. She was a prominent witness to the resurrection of Christ, the ointment box was there to anoint the body of Jesus. The statue was made to an example of Jan Bormans (1479 - 1520). The posture and gestures are very naturally displayed. The image is almost entirely gilded in gold leaf, the hands and face are glazed paint. Striking is the headpiece that keeps together the long hairs - with which she dried off Jesus feet - which are braided. Then there is the beautiful draped gold cloak. The colour differences in the photos are due to the light. Will be carefully packaged for shipping.
