Beautiful very active harbour view painting by the Belgian painter H.J. Pauwels who is quickly increasing in popularity. Pauwels is a painter who is at the same level with, without exaggeration by creative craftsmanship, the Dutch Breitner. His paintings could be described as a synthesis of poetry, optimism and impressionism. This painting probably dates from the 1950s or 1960s. Pauwels was a painter of decorative landscapes, interiors, sea scapes and Antwerp harbour views. Henry-Joseph is a poetic, optimistic and from time to time really masterly - though also shallow - post-impressionist who painted with ease and used a luminist colour tone. This Pauwels is especially appreciated outside his own country and is much better known abroad than in Belgium. Mentioned in Akoun, Arto and Piron, among others.
