Maurice de Vlaminck (1876-1958) - Village in the woods

Maurice de Vlaminck (Paris 1876 - Rueil-la-Gadelière 1958). "Village in the woods". On the front plan is a black fence with a set of tall trees on either side. These flanking trees serve as coulisse and lead the viewer's gaze over the closed fence into the composition to the village in the background. The four houses with blue and red gable roofs are surrounded by the soft green tones of the forest. By painting a deep blue sky next to the forest, Vlaminck accentuates the calming nature of the landscape. Maurice de Vlaminck was a fauvist and (later) an expressionist painter. Especially in his landscapes, Vlaminck tried to respond to the emotional feeling of the spectator with colour. Vlaminck often reused successful compositions. Another edition of this painting was auctioned on 25 April 2009 at Galerie Art Parha in Prague. The painting offered here comes from the renowned art dealer Peter Pappot where it was offered under the title "Village in the woods". Signed 'Vlaminck' (bottom centre). Watercolour, pen and ink on paper. Dimensions without frame: 33 x 45 cm. The watercolour is framed behind glass. Both the watercolour and the frame are in excellent condition. No moisture or fungal damage is visible under UV light. The painting will be well-packed and sent by insured and registered mail. Can also be picked up. Origin: art dealer Peter Pappot, Amsterdam. #ExclusiveArtWeek
