Atala - By Umberto Dei Gran Lusso - Road bicycle - 1965

Cesare Rizzato, owner of Atala, took over the historic Umberto Dei company in 1963. In the company warehouse, he found some fully chrome frames created for bikes with rod brakes. He decided then to cover the chrome with paintwork, leaving only some details, and to embellished the frames with more valuable and expensive cable brakes. The buyers who know the history of bicycle also know that at that time high-end bicycles were fitted out with the innovative cable-controlled brakes. This is how the Atala Gran Lusso, equipped with an Umberto Dei frame, was born. This bike is amazingly preserved, always belonged to the seller’s family, and very little used. All that's missing is the dynamo, which was almost certainly dismantled to be set on another bike. To get it back on track, some worn parts have been replaced with vintage spare parts, such as sheaths, tyres, brake shoes, net protective elastic for wheels. Hubs are branded CRP. It was entirely greased and lubricated and now is in perfect working order. Eye-catching bicycle for collector’s. A great home décor item. Location: Salerno, Italy.
