Fiat - 509 A Torpedo 2 porte "NO RESERVE" - 1929

This rare FIAT 509 A is the 2-door Torpedo version; also the ‘Sport’ Mille Miglia version was made on this chassis. It is rarer, more agile and lighter in driving than the 4-door version. The engine is an original 109 A (improved power, reliability and cylinder head compared to the normal 509), the date on the engine block 23-1-1929 corresponds with the year of construction. The two-door Fiat 509 A was the first Italian car to win the Monte Carlo Rally in 1928, driven by the French gentleman-driver Jacques Bignan. The car has undergone a total restoration, followed with love and care by the previous owner, which was finished in 2015-2016. The bodywork was removed from the chassis, restored and painted in the original burgundy colour with black wings. The soft top is new. Upholstery was redone new just like the original version, in burgundy leather. The engine was rebuilt and the original magnet ignition was modified by a specialist with an external coil for better and reliable operation; it works very well. The original 12V electrical system was overhauled. The starter was fully rebuilt by STORICAR of Brescia, the bronze carburettor by LABANTI of Bologna (please see photos and invoices). The original Fergat rims, suspension, steering, differential and gearbox were restored and work well. Speed declared by the manufacturer: over 80 km/h. Brakes were replaced and modified from the outside with Fiat hydraulic pump and cylinders, which allows you to use the car with more safety. Registered with Italian (European) number plates and registration certificate. Registered in the Italian Fiat Historical Register (RFI) with an entry on the registration document; it participated in some events and concours d’elegance. A video of the car, driving and engine is available, please contact Catawiki. Technical inspection passed with certificate on 1st June 2020 (valid June 2022). Please note: ornamental front crank (original button ignition). Bidders are welcome to view and test the vehicle. It is located in Quarrata 51039, PT, Italy. Please send a message to Catawiki for an appointment. We can arrange transfer of ownership remotely or export documents. Affordable shipping to Italy, Europe and rest of the world.
