Hubert Malfait. Belgian painter Astene 1898-1971 Sint-Martens-Latem Hubert Malfait is considered part of the 2nd generation of the Latem School. In the 1920s, he painted a number of expressionist canvases in which man is prominently featured in the foreground. He sometimes placed his figure in a cubist construction. Studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Ghent where he was a pupil of Jean Delvin and George Menier. He preferred to paint rural scenes with figures and animals. He settled in 1955 in Sint-Martens-Latem. From 1959 onwards, his shapes became expressionistic again. Fantastic painting of an old female farmer with a wheelbarrow in front of her farm placed in a landscape. Signed in the bottom right. The painting was bought by the father of the painter's owner. The canvas size is 50 x 40 cm.
