A. Hoskam (20th century) - Montelbaans Tower Amsterdam

Attractive oil painting, signed A. Hoskamp, of a characteristic Amsterdam cityscape, the Montelbaans Tower, better known as 'Malle Jaap' (mad Jaap) amongst the people of Mokum (slang for Amsterdam) - a wonderful defense tower built in 1517. Not much is known about the painter A. Hoskam; his name is registered with the RKD (Netherlands Institute for Art History), although without any more personal details. After some reserach I have been able to find out following: At the End of May 1934 whilst living in the Spoorstraat in Den Helder, he organises a painting exhibition in the townhall of Den Helder, the other participants being: J. van Vliet, Melchers Tilmes, Dubois and Bokhorst. A. Hoskam is a member of the Vereniging van Kunstbescherming in Amsterdam. In February 1937 A. Hoskam and his family move to the Weteringschans 177 in Amsterdam. Dimensions painting: 22 x 28 cm Dimensions frame: 29 x 36 cm Condition painting : good Condition frame : good This painting will be packaged with care and sent by registered mail without delay.
