Embellished with about one hundred first-class wood engravings and a series of full-page portraits. Published by Frederick Warne & Co., London, 1889. In stunning gilded pictorial green cloth binding with gilded page ends, illustrated with full page color illustrations. Decoratve green cloth, with designs in gilt and black, all edges gilt. With about 100 wood engravings, some in style of chromo-lithography (color) from photographs and other sources. Edison, Fergusson, Edward Baines of Leeds, Milton, Holland, Dr. Schliemann, Colonel Colt, Captain Cook, Rowland Hill, Martin Luther, Spenser, the Early London Water Supply, Dickens, Singapore, Durer, Bishop Wilberforce, Sir Robert Peel, Bessemer, Miles Standish, Lady Russell, Galileo, Sir Christopher Wren, Michael Angelo, Robert Raikes, Charles I, Livingstone, Lord Russell, Bunsen, Gladstone, Educational Parliament, many others. Prize plate to the inside of the front cover. Hinges are sound, yellow coated endpapers. Spine edge has got little tears to top. Corners are gently bumped.
