Butsudan (1) - Lacquer, Wood, Gold-coloured metal - Early-/Mid-Shôwa period (Early-/Mid-20th century).

A beautiful black lacquered wooden house shrine 仏壇 (butsudan), in 3 parts, with a lot of excessive details. The gilded interior of the butsudan showcases an array of shrine elements elaborately decorated with a variety of stylized auspicious symbols. These include phoenixes, lotuses, emblems associated with the Seven Gods of Fortune 七福神 (Shichifukujin), clouds, and scrolling foliage. The detailed photos of the interior offer a glimpse into the richness of these embellishments. Designed to accommodate three votive figures, the altar itself is elevated on a tiered gallery. The lower tier features three sliding doors, each adorned with maki-e depicting lotus flowers. Beneath, there is a discreetly placed pull-out tray. The shrine is secured by a pair of interior black lacquer doors, enhanced with gold lacquer lattice work and golden mesh, and external black lacquer doors equipped with ornate metal hardware and a sliding lock. The separate base under the shrine includes a pair of drawers, flanking a panel, that flips upward, adorned with a crest 紋 (mon) featuring three horizontal lines. This panel opens to expose a pull-out tray with a container at the back. Placed in its turn on lacquered plinth. Including different shrine accesories as seen on the photos. When acquired new, in Japan these shrines are extremely expensive to buy! Period: Japan – Early-/Mid-Shôwa period (Early-/Mid-20th century). Approx. dimensions: Height 144.5 cm, Width 75.5 cm with closed doors , width with open doors 139.5 cm, Depth 49 cm. In a very good original condition with some traces of wear conform age. Please look at the photos for a condition reference. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity. Please note: Due to the holidays, shipping and handling times may be longer. Thank you for your understanding.
