Married to Wes Ilcken who died in 1957 and married Pim Jacobs in 1960 The Jazz-diva has played with artists like Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Dizzy Gillespie, Chico Hamilton, Jimmy Smith, Zoot Sims, and many others. In 1960 she was dubbed "Europe's first lady of jazz" at the Juan Les Pins Jazzfestival, France. In 1969, became the first Dutch jazz singer to perform at the New Orleans festival.
