Ryubundo 龍文堂 - Iron Japanese Hexagon Lantern 六角灯篭 - Lantern - Iron (cast/wrought)
It is a Hexagon Lantern with Japanease-inspired aesthetic made by Ryubundo 龍文堂.
This is a charming cast iron hanging lantern (釣り灯籠: tsuridôrô) with a Hexagon shape. The roof part has a stupa-like structure, and the main body features a lattice pattern combined, creating a distinctly Japanese expression.
This is a type of lighting fixture whose lid can be opened and a flame is lit inside.
The light escaping through the intricate patterns creates a nostalgic atmosphere.
The size is approximately 11-13 centimeters hexagon, making it just the right size. You can easily move it to your balcony, garden, or anywhere else. Carry it to your favorite spot and enjoy the beauty of Japanese lanterns.
Ryubundo 龍文堂
Ryubundo was a Kyoto-based iron kettle shop that existed from the late Edo period to around 1958 (Showa 33). During this time, it continued for eight generations.
Ryubundo was a workshop in Kyoto that manufactured iron kettles from the late Edo period to the early Showa period. It began when its founder, Ryo Ryumon, developed a method for manufacturing iron kettles using wax casting in Kyoto.
During the Meiji and Taisho periods, Ryubundo produced high-end iron kettles, earning itself a prestigious reputation. Among the disciples of the second generation, Ryo Yasunosuke, were Kibundo Seihei and Hinakura Roku, both of whom received high acclaim. In Natsume Soseki's novel "I Am a Cat," there is a passage that reads, "At times like these, I listen to the sound of Matsukaze from Ryubundo and indulge in tea, which is the ultimate luxury," indicating the high regard for Ryubundo's iron kettles as luxury items.
Ryubundo is no longer in existence today, and its surviving works are highly sought after and command high prices.
