Kopke 30 years Old Tawny Port 1 x 0.75L Kopke 10 years Old Tawny Port 1 x 0.75L 2 Bottles Port Wine DESCRIPTION In 1636, a journey took place between Hamburg and Portugal that would prove to be the root of a long story: Nicolau Köpke arrived in his new country as Consul General of the Hanseatic Cities. Two years later, in 1638, he signed the first bottles of wine sent to Northern Europe. The purchase of a farm in Douro, in 1781, marks the transition from a purchasing company to a large wine producer. Port Wines are gaining importance in the company, quickly becoming the main business. Nicolau Kopke & Co. becomes an example of innovation, integrating wine production and trade in the same company. In 1841, the firm assumed the name of C. N. Kopke, a name which remains as such to this day. In the coming centuries, Kopke will strive to honor its legacy, which has been built with passion across generations. VINIFICATION Hand-picked at the optimum time, the grapes are then destemmed, crushed and converted into wine through a process of careful maceration to extract their colour, tannins and aromas, enhanced by constant churning during fermentation. This takes place in vats (lagares) at a controlled temperature (between 28-30°C) until the right degree of sweetness (baumé) is achieved. At this point, grape brandy is added to create the final fortified wine. A wine of high quality, made by blending wines of different harvests to achieve the array of sensory qualities that are typical of these aged tawny Port wines. These wines have each matured in oak casks for varied periods of time, with the average age of all the wines in the blend defining the age on the label. The resulting blend expresses the characteristics given by the ageing in wood. TASTING NOTES Amber in colour, with green hues. An intense and complex nose, with prevailing aromas of dried fruit well-balanced with notes of vanilla and honey. On the palate, it is harmonious, concentrated and unctuous. A superb and enduring finish. SERVING Irresistible with a starter of foie gras with aubergine and walnuts. A great choice for an endless array of desserts, such as toffee brownies, chocolate and pistachio pavé, or crostini of walnuts with chèvre. Best served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. -> Kopke 10 years Old Tawny Port 1 x 0.75L AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 91 points, Wine Spectator 91 points, Roy Hersh 95 Points, International Wine Challenge 92 Points, Decanter World Wine Awards 91 Points, International Wine & Spirit Competition 88 points, Wine Enthusiast 17 Points, Jancis Robinson Gold Medal, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Gold Medal, Mundus Vini Spring Tasting Gold Medal, Sommelier Wine Awards Gold Medal, Sélection Mondiales des Vins 16.5 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas 16 Points, Revista de Vinhos WINE VARIETIES: Tradition from Douro Region.
