PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s). 2019 Dona Francisca Red 6 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION Clear words, of closeness between father and daughter, who was given the name, precisely, of one of the most characteristic grape varieties of the Douro. António Augusto Ferreira, producer of Dona Francisca, developed Dona Francisca wines with French winemaker Jean-Hugues Gros, and the result is a unique wine. An old passion for the land, the Douro and wine led him to leave his previous life, spent around beers, at Unicer, and settle in Folgosa, on the south bank of the Douro river. On the small farm, where traditional Douro vineyards had grown for decades, with a fantastic location overlooking the river and the valley, he decided to listen to his friends and dedicate himself, body and soul, to his wine. With the support of his wife, Joana Queiroz Ribeiro, António is taking the first steps in creating a brand that will make people talk, and which both promise limited production, strong identity and lots of inspiration. WINEMAKER: Jean-Hugues Gros. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 16.5 Points, Revista de Vinhos (2011 Vintage) WINE VARIETIES: Old Vines, Touriga Nacional & Tinta Francisca. VINIFICATION The grapes were de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks, at a controlled temperature of 25ºC for 6 days. Aging in 500 liter French oak barrels for 14 months. TASTING NOTES A ruby colored wine, with a violet edge, it is intense on the nose, with aromas of black fruits, cherries, blackberries, well combined with the new wood that gives it more complexity. It is a typical Douro wine, with fascinating freshness and elegance. SERVING It goes well with red meat dishes. Store in a horizontal position, in a cool and dry place, protected from light and temperature fluctuations. Serve at a temperature of 16ºC to 18ºC. Consume in moderation.
