Northwest Africa 16050 (NWA 16050) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2023 May Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite) Physical characteristics: Four brownish fragments mostly covered with fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a gabbroic texture and is predominantly composed of up to 1.5 mm sized prismatic, irregularly zoned pyroxene, angular, partly euhedral olivine often containing magmatic inclusions, and interstitial maskelynite. Minor phases include chromite, ilmenite, and FeS. The meteorite is highly shocked and contains shock melt veins and pockets. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa39.7±0.4 (Fa39.1-40.2, FeO/MnO=51±1, n=7); zoned pyroxene: Fs27.9±2.9Wo9.3±2.8 (Fs23.5-34.2Wo3.3-13.0, FeO/MnO=31±2, n=12); maskelynite (An57.6-60.0Ab38.9-41.2Or1.0-1.4, n=7)
