Patinated bronze - Pagoda okimono 塔置物 - Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century)

Nice, and tall patinated bronze okimono 置物 shaped like a 5-storied pagoda 塔 (tô) on a raised platform. Each corner with a bell-shaped ornament. The front gate can be open and closed. Dimensions: Height 102.5 cm, Width 26.3 cm, Depth 34.5 cm. Weight 16.2 kg. Period: Japan - Mid-/Late-Shôwa period (Mid-/Late-20th century). It is in a very good condition with light aged patina. The point can be removed. Please look at the photos for a condition reference. Pagodas in Japan are called tō (塔, lit. pagoda), sometimes buttō (仏塔, lit. Buddhist pagoda) or tōba (塔婆, lit. pagoda) and historically derive from the Chinese pagoda, itself an interpretation of the Indian stupa. Like the stupa, pagodas were originally used as reliquaries but in many cases they ended up losing this function. Pagodas are quintessentially Buddhist and an important component of Japanese Buddhist temple compounds, and they are not rare at shrines either. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
