2020 Quinta da Boavista - Douro Reserva - 3 Bottles (0.75L)

PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s). 2020 Quinta da Boavista, Boa-Vista Reserva Red 3 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION Located near Pinhão, on the right bank of the Douro river, Quinta da Boavista has an extraordinary view over the river. It is one of the most iconic estates in the demarcated region, known not only for its historical connection with the Baron of Forrester, but also for its 36 hectares of high-quality vines. It is also the birthplace of a series of impressive indigenous grape varieties and several old vine parcels, twisted by the time, that present low yields but exceptional quality grapes that allow the production of the best Port and still wines. In the old vines, those grape variety were commonly planted together in order to produce natural batches with high complexity and richness. Currently, they are separately planted with the 5 most currently used being Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão Quinta da Boavista’s 36 ha of vineyards are spread over a dazzling geometric setting of terraces built by hand and supported by small schist walls, which is typical of the region. Some of the terraces are almost eight meters high, and this, along with the extreme climate and dramatic steep slopes, provides a unique terroir. The estate is well preserved, kept rigorously as a fine example of the Douro’s typical beauty. WINEMAKER: Jean-Claude Berrouet. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast (2019 Vintage) 17.5 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas (2019 Vintage) 94 Points, Hudin (2017 Vintage) 93 Points, Falstaff (2017 Vintage) 93 Points, Revista Adega (2017 Vintage) 17.5 Points, Jancis Robinson (2017 Vintage) 17.5 Points, Vinum Magazine (2015 Vintage) 93 Points, Robert Parker (2014 Vintage) 92 Points, Wine Spectator (2013 Vintage) 17.5 Points, Revista de Vinhos (2013 Vintage) WINE VARIETIES: Touriga Nacional (25%), Touriga Franca (25%), Tinto Cão (25%) & Vinhas Velhas (25%). VINIFICATION To ensure the prevalence of the variety’s characteristics and the full control of the process, at Quinta da Boavista we use manual harvesting and manual grape sorting processes, followed by a gentle berry de-stalk and crush. As fermentation reservoirs we have the traditional granite wine presses with foot treading, stainless steel fermentation vats and, for small batches, PVC food containers or fermentation in new 500 litre French wooden barrels. Each of these types of fermentation gives the wine a unique style and personality. After aging in 500 liter barrels for 15 to 20 months we create the Reserva blend. All our wines are sealed under natural cork. This wine is not filtered or cold-stabilized and that is why it can produce a sediment with age. TASTING NOTES Vibrant colour. Displays complex aromas of black fruit, ample and generous, well-matched by fresh and elegant notes of fine spice. Creamy in the mouth, with well-polished, round tannins, it shows the freshness of red berries and floral notes. This is an exuberant wine with plenty to give in years to come. SERVING Perfect with red meat, game or cheese dishes. Serve at a temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC.
