Esmeralda is a limited release to mark the sixth anniversary of Distillery De Molenberg. This lot is bottle n°1820 of a limited edition of 8000 bottles (see label) A basic maturation of 30 months in Bourbon barrels was followed by a lengthy finish of 48 months in Madeira wine casks. Exactly 600 years ago, Portuguese explorers landed on the island of eternal spring and named it after its abundance of wood ('Madeira'). This green emerald ('Esmeralda') in the Atlantic Ocean is known for its fortified wines. Notes of sultanas and nuts give this fruity and spicy whisky a seductive elegance. The mildly sweet flavour is punctuated with a slight acidity and flows into a long, rich finish.
